Press Release

Cisco Switches receive US DoD UCAPL certification using Pragma SSH Client

Austin, Texas {October 2, 2017} – Pragma Systems, a leading provider of secure remote access software and a Cisco Solution Partner, announced Cisco Systems and Pragma Systems collaboratively worked to improve critical infrastructure security using multi-factor authentication RFC 6187 in their SSH implementation. One new result of this collaboration is the Cisco Industrial Ethernet Switches receiving US DoD UCAPL Certification for deployment that requires multi-factor authentication. Pragma Fortress SSH Client was used for this validation and is one of the two vendors recommended in Cisco’s UCAPL US DoD deployment guide.

Brent Searle of Cisco, Global Certification Team (GCT), Security and Trust Organization in Arizona, who lead this certification project, describes Pragma SSH client use this way: Multifactor authentication, and more specifically, SSH with smartcard (CAC) x509 keys, is supported using an RFC 6187 compliant SSH client. Both Pragma Systems and SecureCRT SSH clients are known to work with Cisco’s Industrial Ethernet switches. Pragma Systems Website: http://www.pragmasys.com SecureCRT Website: https://www.vandyke.com

"Pragma is very pleased to work with Cisco for enhancing and certifying our SSH solutions. We are delighted that Cisco is using our SSH clients to test in their labs and in the certification process,” said David Kulwin, CTO of Pragma Systems.

Pragma and Cisco already have several large joint customer wins in the US federal agencies for this Multi-Factor authentication of Cisco switches using Pragma Fortress SSH clients and Cisco IOS SSH servers. Internal Revenue Service of US Treasury, US Army, US Air Force, US Guam National Guard, General Dynamics Win-T program for the US Army are current large users of Pragma SSH solutions. The US DoD APL Certification by Cisco will further enhance deployment of this solution to other federal agencies and commercial enterprises who want to secure their critical infrastructure per the US NSA and the White House recommended multi-factor solution and DoD CAC or Smart Cards.

The certification process is continuing to add more Cisco devices to pass UCAPL.

In order to further comply with government requirements, Pragma added 2-factor RFC 6187 support in Fortress SSH product line to work with Cisco routers and switches which are SSH RFC 6187 enabled. 2-factor RFC 6187 SSH is a key requirement for US DoD and Federal Government departments to avoid the hacking & unauthorized access going around from foreign countries and intruders. Pragma Fortress SSH clients and servers fully support RFC 6187 2-factor authentication, has been validated by Cisco to work in its secure environment (Cisco IOS 15.2 (2) and above supports RFC 6187).
